Introduction to Palliative Care Course

This course provides its group members with the opportunity to reflect on Palliative Care issues as they relate to their own practice. Key themes covered by the course include:

  • An introduction to the philosophy of palliative care
  • Communication skills
  • Symptom management, including palliative care emergencies
  • Working with loss
  • Ethical issues

There is also a 10 day clinical placement during which participants can experience working within a hospice environment as well as spending time with other healthcare professionals involved in the delivery of palliative care.

The course is affiliated to the University of Manchester School of Nursing and Social Work, and attracts 20 credit points at either Level 2 or Level 3

Who should attend?
This course is intended for trained healthcare professionals who have been qualified for a minimum of 6 months and are working in a relevant field of clinical practice. University requirements state that participants must also be working for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
