What a blinging hit!

What a blinging success! A Black, White and Bling Ball went with such a swing it raised more than £3,000 in aid of St Ann’s Hospice.

Beautician Sarah Vaughan, proprietor of Peaches ‘n’ Cream beauty salon in Timperley, organised the ball as part of a St Ann’s Tribute Fund in memory of her mum, Shirley Greaves, who would have been 70 this year.

“I can’t thank St Ann’s enough for what they did for my mum, and I just hope that raising money for the Hospice goes a little way to help others get the care they deserve,” said Sarah.

Sarah also raised a further £1,000 with an Open Day at her salon and two of her salon staff, Hollie Davies and Suzanne Francis, took part in a sponsored run around Timperley the same day.

MPs to open St Ann’s charity shops

Local MPs officially opened two new charity shops on Friday (March 23) in aid of St Ann’s Hospice, which cares for more than 3,000 people each year with life-threatening illnesses.

Ian Stewart, Labour MP for Eccles opened a shop in Monton Road, Monton, and Paul Goggins, MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East opened the new St Ann’s Hospice shop in Palatine Road, Northenden.

St Ann’s Hospice Trading Manager Anthony Lord said: “We are grateful for the support from our local MPs, as this will bring the number of St Ann’s charity shops to nine, and we have plans to open more in the future. Our shops play an important part in bringing in revenue which allows us to provide free treatment for patients.

New road for St Ann’s Hospice

A less bumpy approach to St Ann’s Hospice at Little Hulton will be assured with the completion of essential resurfacing work on the roadway leading to the site.

Stockport based contractors, FJ Goodwin & Sons (Manchester) Ltd, carried out the resurfacing ‘at cost’. Their Director, Patrick Goodwin, said: “We are pleased to be able to help St Ann’s Hospice in improving the access to their facility.”

Generous contributions were also made by John Lloyd (Heywood) Ltd and St Ann’s supporters Harry Wilkes, Derek Jones, Alan Baxter and Peter Clarke following an event sponsored by Mr Clarke at Haydock Park Races last September.

Louise wins our 2006 car raffle

Lucky Louise Boyle is the winner of the St Ann’s car raffle – and she did not even know she had been entered for the competition!

For it was her mum, Janice, who bought the £1 raffle ticket and put her daughter’s name on it.

Now Louise, from Brooklands, Sale, is the proud owner of a brand new Renault Clio Dynamique worth more than £11,000 supplied by Renault Manchester.

“It could not have come at a better time, as I am just setting up a new home,” said Louise, 33, who works as a civil servant.

Barney Schofield, New Car Sales Manager at Renault Manchester, who handed over the keys to Louise's new car, said: "We're really pleased to have supplied the car for such a worthy local cause, and can guarantee that Louise is in for a treat behind the wheel of the popular New Clio."

More than 48,000 tickets were sold for the 2006 raffle, raising more than £36,000 in total for St Ann’s Hospice.

Ladyzone backs St Ann’s Hospice

Ladyzone, a toning and weight loss club in Heald Green for ladies only, is backing St Ann’s Hospice with a special Mothers’ Day offer to women who want to tone-up and lose weight.

Sandra Bailey, manager of Ladyzone in Finney Lane is offering a free week’s use of the friendly club in return for a £5 donation to St Ann’s. The offer will run from March 19 to 31.

Sandra said: “Many of our members are mums, so we thought we would make a special offer for Mother’s Day that would benefit St Ann’s, which is our local charity. It will benefit busy mums or any ladies who want results and a bit of time-out for themselves.”
