The hospice ethos of caring for the whole person recognises that spiritual care is as important as caring for the physical, mental and emotional aspects. We spoke to the Chaplains at Heald Green to understand more about how they play an important role in the delivery of care.

"A large part of the role is just being there for patients, relatives, friends and staff. Engaging people in conversation, giving people the chance to talk about 'unfinished business' and getting things off their minds or maybe just sitting alongside people."

Services are held in the Chapels at Heald Green and Little Hulton twice a week. Prayer requests left by the patients and families become part of the services. A Multi-Faith room is available at Heald Green and the Neil Cliffe Centre for all non-Christian denominations.

The Chaplains also spend time at patients' bedsides or in Day Care, praying and taking communion with those who can't physically attend the services.

"One of the biggest challenges we face is the one that faces the staff - dealing with people's fears and anxieties".

The Chaplains are also there to support staff and volunteers.
